M’s Bullpen Wastes Leake’s Stellar Start as Cardinals Score 5 in 9th

Mike Leake pitched 7.2 innings without giving up a run.

Austin Adams and Roenis Elías combined for 1.1 innings and gave up 5 runs–all in the ninth inning.

Adams and Elías had been spectacular until Wednesday night. The last time Adams gave up an earned run was June 6.

Elías had only given up one earned run in his last nine appearances.

Well, that and the win for Mike Leake all went out the window as Tommy Edman’s pinch-hit 3-run home run went over the left field fence.
