MLS Reveals New Opening Weekend Date
Major League Soccer announced a slight change to the beginning of their 2021 season.
The MLS regular season will kickoff on Saturday, April 17, instead of April 3.
On Jan. 25, the league released a number of important dates including the “MLS is Back” opening weekend would be April 3. However, MLS and the player’s association had not agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement yet.
So, when the two sides ratified the new CBA on Monday, the opening date apparently changed. MLS officially revealed the new opening day on Wednesday.
There is no announced change for when teams can start training — expected to still be Feb. 22.
The 2021 MLS regular season will be officially released “in the coming weeks,” which is what the league also said on Jan. 25.
