Mariners Strand Six Down The Stretch, Tigers Win 3-2
Game two of a three games series with the Tigers concluded tonight in Detroit.
Marco Gonzales got in trouble early in the home half of the second. The Tigers loaded the bases with no outs after three consecutive singles.
Gonzales retired the next two batters before a Victor Reyes base hit knocked in two runs to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
Harold Castro extended the Tigers lead to 3-0 after an RBI single in the bottom half of the third.
The Mariners bats woke up in the top half of the fourth, when J.P. Crawford launched a solo shot to right field making it 3-1 Tigers.
A Daniel Vogelbach home run to deep right field in the top of the fifth helped the Mariners cut into the lead, 3-2.
That would be the final score of the game, as the Mariners struggled to capitalize with runners in scoring position down the stretch.
Vogelbach took the plate with bases loaded and two outs in the top half of the sixth, but struck out swinging.
The Mariners had runners on first and second in the top of the seventh, but Mallex Smith was picked off at first to end the inning.
Tigers pitcher Joe Jimenez came in to close it out in the ninth, retiring the side and securing the win.
The win ended the Tigers five-game losing streak to the Mariners.
Kyle Seager followed up his three home run evening with a hit and a walk, extending his hit streak to eight games.
