Mariners Rock Miley Early, Blow A 7-Run Lead and Lose 11-9 in Extra Innings
Seattle got to Wade Miley early in the first inning, jumping out to a 5-0 lead before the Astros were able to record a single out.
The Mariners extended that early lead after the first of two Austin Nola home runs in the game. Seattle built a 7-0 lead heading into the home half of the second inning.
Houston continued to battle back throughout the game, closing the gap in the 6th inning with a couple solo home runs by Tucker and Reddick, making it a 7-5 ball game. Austin Nola’s second home run of the game came in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the scrappy Astros bats.
Jose Altuve knocked in two runs with a huge triple to deep right center field in the eighth. Brantley hit Altuve home with a game-tying sacrifice fly, which ultimately sent the game to extra innings.
Kyle Seager pushed a home run to left field in the top half of the 12th inning, which looked to be the game winner at the moment. Seager had a big night, scoring two runs and knocking in three RBI’s.
The Astros simply would not go away. Seattle was just one strike away from sealing the victory with a runner on second and two outs, but Kyle Tucker had other plans. Tucker singled to right field, scoring pinch runner Myles Straw and tying the game again at 9-9.
Astros pitcher Josh James struck on the side in the top half of the 13th inning, leaving the door wide open for a Houston walk-off. Marisnick got on board with a lead off walk, and Michael Brantley took care of the rest with a walk-off two-run home run.
Astros win 11-9.
