Mariners Lose After 5 Hours, 14 Innings to Astros 8-7

Coming into the game, many thought Justin Verlander would cruise against the Mariners. For the most part, he did.

However, he couldn’t get out of the 7th inning. He got one out and walked two straight batters. Both walks would later score after Will Harris took over.

Verlander’s final line: 6.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 7 K, 0 BB.

The Mariners eventually fought back from down 3-0, 5-1 and 6-4 to tie the game 6-6 in the bottom of the 9th inning.

The game nearly ended in the bottom of the 10th, but Omar Narvaez wasn’t ready to be done.

Full count. Two outs. Solo shot. Narvaez hit a home run to tie the game 7-7.

Fast forward to the 14th inning, where Myles Straw led off the top of the inning with a triple. Yuli Gurriel smacked a ball deep enough to score Straw on a sacrifice fly.

The home half of the 14th was in doubt early as two of the first three batters struck out. With a runner on, the Mariners managed back-to-back walks with two outs.

Bases loaded for Shed Long. He got ahead in the count, 3-1, but he swung at a ball–that may have been ball four–and the game ended after the ball was caught in left field.
