How The Seahawks And The Blazers Are A Lot Alike

Seattle and Portland have a rivalry when it comes to sports. But for the two biggest franchises both Seattle and Portland are a lot more alike than one may realize.

John Canzano on the Bald Faced Truth was talking about the Seahawks, and made the comparison to the Portland Trail Blazers. Canzano says that the Seahawks have a lot of unknowns heading into this season. But does the lack of an owner hurt the Seahawks like it has hurt the Trail Blazers?

“I’ll tell you what I do know,” Canzano said on 750 The Game. “They have the same issue that the Blazers have. They’ve got Jody Allen. Now the NFL is different. In the NFL, where you got a hard salary cap and you have a system that is designed to create parody, as long as you got some people in your front office and your coaching staff, I don’t think you’re in as bad a position as an NBA team is with an absentee owner.”

Canzano says he feels for Seahawks fans who are also Blazers fans. And that the parallels between the two franchises are very noticeable, from the head coach to the star player.

“If you’re a Seahawks fan who’s also a Blazers fan you have to be living it,” Canzano continued. “The Blazers got rid of their franchise player. (They) Got rid of their coach that was their coach for a while. Had taken them to a Western Conference Finals. Seahawks got rid of their franchise quarterback. Got rid of their coach as well. They’re in transition.”

Why are both the Seahawks and Blazers in the position that they are in? Canzano doesn’t know if it’s vice chair of Vulcan Inc. Bert Kolde, but he worries for Seahawks fans falling into the same trap as the Blazers.

“I don’t know why this is happening,” said Canzano. “I don’t know if it’s Bert Kolde. I don’t know if it’s just the cycle of sports. But I am watching the Seahawks with great curiosity. To see if they are as impacted as the Blazers are by the ownership situation. The NFL is a little more immune to it. But they’re not totally immune to it.”

The two biggest similarities are Jody Allen and Bert Kolde. Will this affect the Seahawks the same way it has affected the Trail Blazers? Seahawks fans are in year three of life after Russell Wilson. It seems like a big make or break season for Seattle.
