Happy Birthday, Rip City! Remembering the Legendary Moment from Bill Schonely

It was 49 years ago today that Portland Trail Blazers legendary broadcaster, Bill Schonely yelled out the famous words “Rip City!” during a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on February 18th, 1971.

In honor of the Blazers’ 50th season, Portland mayor Ted Wheeler will proclaim February 19th as the official “Rip City Day” during Wednesday’s city council meeting.
