According to a report from The Oregonian, Geri Ann Glasco, 24, a former Oregon Ducks softball player, died in an auto accident early Thursday in Louisiana.

Glasco was a student assistant for Louisiana softball.  Her father Garry is the head coach of the program.  Glasco played for the Ducks from 2015-16 and was a student assistant in 2017.

A description of the accident from The Oregonian reads:

Glasco, who played for the Ducks in 2015-16 and served as a student assistant in 2017, was driving a Ford Escape on Interstate 10 East in Lafayette, La. when the five-vehicle accident occurred. According to KATC, an 18-wheeler failed to slow down in a construction zone and hit the read end of a Dodge Ram driven by Kenneth McNeil, starting a chain reaction that drove McNeil’s pickup truck into Glasco’s vehicle, which hit a second 18-wheeler that then hit a third 18-wheeler.

The University of Oregon has since released a statement:

Statement from UO Athletics and the Oregon Softball program on the loss of Geri Ann Glasco:

“Oregon Softball and the UO Athletics family is devastated to learn of the passing of Geri Ann Glasco, and we extend our deepest sympathies to Geri Ann’s family, friends, and former teammates. Geri Ann was an amazing young woman who always had an extremely positive impact on everyone that she met. We were privileged to have Geri Ann as a member of the Duck family, and she will forever be in our hearts.”
