It may be the biggest “what if” team in the Northwest. The 2019-20 Oregon women’s basketball team. Led by Sabrina Ionescu, the Ducks were one of the favorites to take home the NCAA championship. Now two players off of that team have received WNBA honors.
Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally both have received 2nd team all WNBA honors this season voted on by the AP. Ionescu averaged 17 ppg, 5.6 rpg, and 5.4 apg while shooting nearly 45% from three point range. Ionescu earlier in the season made headlines when she made 25 of 27 three pointers in the WNBA three point contest. Ionescu plays for the New York Liberty who are the #1 seed in the Eastern Conference and take on Washington in the postseason.
Satou Sabally earned 2nd team All WNBA honors and also won the most improved player this season. Sabally averaged 18.6 ppg, 8.1 rpg, and 4.4 apg for the Dallas Wings this season. After playing in just 44 games because of injuries her first three years combined, Sabally was able to stay healthy and played in 38 of the Wings’ 40 contests this season and averaging great numbers. Dallas finished second in the Western Conference and will take on the Atlanta Dream in the postseason.
