Saturday in the park. The park was Yankee Stadium but it wasn’t the fourth of July. It was Timbers gameday against NYCFC.

It was a rough early morning in New York as the Timbers were playing defense for about the first 30 minutes of the match. NYCFC got the first goal of the match when Santiago Martinez scored in the 10th minute of the match.

The Timbers battled the entire first half even though they weren’t playing well. The last 15 minutes of the first half was a turn where the Timbers built some momentum and actually had more possession time than NYCFC.

The momentum continued into the second half where the Timbers were on the offensive. In the 85th minute the Timbers finally broke through when Juan Mosquera dribbled around the defense and crossed it in to the middle of the box and Antony was there to put it in the back of the net for his third goal of the season.

Then it was the goal of the season so far. In stoppage time Evander’s talent shined through. An absolutely incredible goal by the star for the Timbers to give Portland a 2-1 win on the road at NYCFC.

Next up for the Timbers is a match in Houston against the Dynamo on Saturday March 16. We will have pre-match coverage at 4:30 p.m. with kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
