DJ Uiagalelei Is QB1 For Oregon State
750 THE GAME STAFF,
Oregon State has named their starting quarterback.
As expected, incoming transfer, DJ Uiagalelei, will be the starting quarterback for the Beavers in week one of the season against San Jose State.
Uiagalelei, who played three seasons at Clemson, entered the transfer portal last offseason and decided that Oregon State was the spot for him. He beat out last season’s starter, Ben Gulbranson, and freshman Aidan Chiles in fall camp. Gulbranson led the Beavers to a Las Vegas Bowl victory last season and was 7-1 record as the starter while Chiles shined in spring practice.
It was thought that Uiagalelei would be the starting quarterback once he transferred to Corvallis. The fit for Uiagalelei seems great. His father, Big Dave, told John Canzano earlier this year that his son will shine.
“This is the perfect scenario for DJ. All DJ has to do is to be DJ. Go out there. Listen to Coach Smith — an amazing coach. I did my homework on him. What a great guy in the league and the quarterbacks he’s coached. I just thank Coach Smith for choosing my son.”
Uiagalelei is a former five-star prospect out of California who originally committed to play at Clemson. Last season Uigalelei threw for 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions for the Tigers before losing the job to Cade Klubnik.
Oregon State opens up their season on the road at San Jose State on Sunday, September 3rd. It will be a 12:30 kickoff on CBS.
