Derek Carr to sign with New Orleans Saints per reports
Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr reportedly will sign with the New Orleans Saints.
The 31-year-old had the Saints, Panthers and Jets on his short list after being released by the Raiders in February just two days prior to $40 Million of his contract over the next two seasons becoming fully guaranteed.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says it’s a four-year deal worth $150 Million with $100 million in total guarantees. The deal also includes a no-trade clause similar to what Carr had in Vegas, allowing him to control his future.
Carr gets $60 million guaranteed at signing.
The #Saints & Derek Carr agreed on a 4-yr deal for $150M with $100M in total guarantees, per me & @MikeGarafolo. He gets $70M effectively fully guaranteed ($60M at signing, another $10M in Year 3 vesting after Year 1). Carr structures his deal to accommodate Saints’ cap issues. pic.twitter.com/vs6qaBh7rg

Jameis Winston has one year left on his deal with the Saints, but Carr’s arrival could mean Winston’s release is near. Winston is owed over $12 Million in base salary for 2023 but has struggled with injuries each of the last two seasons.
The Saints have missed the playoffs each of the last two seasons since Drew Brees retired before the 2021 season. New Orleans went 9-8 in 2021 in Sean Payton’s final season as head coach before his retirement, and 7-10 last year under Dennis Allen. Allen was the Raiders head coach when the franchise drafted Carr in the second-round of the 2014 draft and made him the starter as a rookie.
