Debating If Bo Nix Should Be A First Round Pick In The NFL Draft
By 750 THE GAME STAFF
The NFL season is over. Now we look forward to the NFL draft.
One of the most intriguing prospects is Oregon quarterback Bo Nix. There was a time when Nix was thought to be a guaranteed first-round pick. Then it was thought he wouldn’t make the NFL. Now, Nix seems like he is a bubble first-round prospect.
Quarterbacks usually get drafted earlier than expected. So it’s fair to think Nix could be a first-round pick.
Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt has watched Nix play a ton of football. Klatt released his mock draft and had Bo Nix as not only a first-round pick, but a top 15 pick. Klatt thinks the Broncos at No. 12 need Bo Nix.
“Sean Payton wants to have a guy that’s a point guard on the field,” Klatt said on his podcast. “This might be a little high for this guy, but the guy that I think fits best in that mold as an experienced, smart, point guard style, accurate passer, ball in the right spot at the right moment — is Bo Nix from Oregon.”
The Broncos are in an interesting situation as they don’t have a second-round pick. So if they do indeed love Nix, they may have to pull the trigger earlier than expected.
“Are they going to stay at twelve? Do you need to move up? I’m not sure,” continued Klatt. “Maybe they can move back a little bit and get Bo Nix. But without a second-round draft pick, they’ve got to address that now.”
John Canzano (Afternoons 3-6 p.m.) said this week on 750 The Game that he does like Nix as a prospect but has said in the past that the success of 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is going to help Nix’s value in the NFL. But Canzano doesn’t see Nix in the same first-round light as Klatt.
“I don’t see it,” Canzano said. “I don’t think he has the arm strength for the NFL’s down-field passing game. I think those questions will arise as the draft approaches. I have a difficult time seeing him as a first-round pick. I have Bo Nix in the second round.”
There is still some time before the actual NFL draft which will be on April 25th in Detroit. But it’s never too early to look at the odds on where Bo Nix will land.
According to Draftkings, Nix is most likely to land in New England with the Patriots. Here are the top 10 odds for where Bo Nix will land:
