Dana’s Ducks collapse, lose 9-point lead in final minute, lose to UCLA in OT

The Oregon Ducks lost a 9-point lead in the final minute of regulation, eventually falling to the UCLA Bruins in overtime 87-84 in Matthew Knight Arena on Thursday night.

UCLA defeats Oregon, 87-84, in OT after trailing by nine with 51 seconds left in regulation.

It’s the largest deficit overcome in the final minute of a Pac-12 game, and ties the sixth-largest deficit overcome in the final minute in Div. I history.

UCLA trailed 76-68 with 45 seconds left, but outscored the Ducks 12-4 in that frame to force overtime.

The Bruins even had a chance to win the game in regulation, but the free-throw attempt by Chris Jones hit the back iron.  Jones tied the game with an offensive rebound and putback and-one with 0.7 seconds remaining.

Oregon led by as many as 17 points in the second half.  The loss drops the Ducks to 0-2 in conference play, despite being the pre-season favorites to win the Pac-12.  UCLA improves to 3-0 in the Pac-12, all three wins coming under interim coach Murry Bartow.  It was UCLA’s first win in Eugene since 2014.

Oregon (9-6, 0-2) will next play on Sat., Jan. 12th vs the USC Trojans (9-7, 2-1) at 5pm on ESPN U.
