Cougs QB Jayden De Laura Suspended From Team Following Weekend DUI Arrest

Washington State quarterback Jayden De Laura has been suspended from the team, according to multiple reports. Rob Jesselson, of Spokane NBC affiliate KHQ, broke the news.

Theo Lawson, Cougs Beat Reporter for The Spokesman Review (also in Spokane), reports there is no indication if De Laura’s suspension will continue into spring camp.

De Laura was arrested for DUI after driving through a stop sign, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and then failing a field sobriety test, Lawson continued. The QB also refused to take a breathalyzer test.

For clarification, a breathalyzer is not required. However, not taking one can result with an immediate license suspension, Jake Opgenorth, Pullman’s Police Commander, told The Spokesman-Review.

The future for the 19-year-old at WSU is currently uncertain. De Laura started all four of the Cougs’ games in 2020.

Also, from an on-field perspective, Washington State brought in Jarrett Guarantano from the University of Tennessee this offseason.
