Conference Update: DUCKS and BEAVS make history; The Madness is Here

Welcome back to 750 The Game’s Conference Update, brought to you by Pacific Seafood, the official meat & seafood provider of the Pac-12 Conference.

This week’s update:

HISTORY by the Oregon Schools

For the first time ever, both the men’s and women’s basketball programs at Oregon AND Oregon State are playing in the NCAA Tournament in the same year.

Three previous occasions saw three of the four programs reach the Tournament, but never before had all four teams made it.

The Oregon State men’s team is chiefly responsible for this moment, as Wayne Tinkle’s squad made an improbable run to win three straight games as an underdog last week in Las Vegas, including upsets of their rival Oregon as well as Colorado in the title game to win the Pac-12 Tournament Championship for the first time in Beavers program history.  The Beavers earned a 12-seed in the Midwest Region and face 5-seed Tennessee in the first round Friday afternoon on 750 The Game.

The Oregon Ducks men’s squad earned an at-large bid as a 7-seed in the West Region and will face 10-seed VCU in the first round Saturday night at 6:57pm, televised on TNT, and can be heard right here on The Game.

On the women’s side, Scott Rueck and the Oregon State Beavers earned an 8-seed in the Hemisfair Region.  They will face 9-seed Florida State in the first round on Sunday at 4:30pm on ESPN 2.  Kelly Graves and the Oregon Ducks are a 6-seed in the Alamo Region and will face 11-seed South Dakota in the first round on Monday night at 7pm on ESPN 2.

OREGON STATE ready for the moment

Wayne Tinkle told our John Canzano on the Bald Faced Truth this week that his Beavers will be ready for the moment, as they are a 12-seed and will face 5-seed Tennessee and legendary head coach Rick Barnes in the first round on Friday afternoon.

Canzano also had Beavs sophomore guard Jarod Lucas on the radio show.  Listen below for the full conversation.

KELLY GRAVES optimistic for Ducks Tourney run

Oregon Ducks women’s basketball coach Kelly Graves joined the show this week as well as his Ducks are a six-seed in the women’s bracket, and face 11-seed South Dakota on Monday night.
