Chris Duarte Named Pac-12 Player of the Year by AP, Eugene Omoruyi Selected First-Team All-Pac-12

EUGENE, Ore. – Two seniors who helped Oregon win its fourth Pac-12 regular season title in the last six years, Chris Duarte and Eugene Omoruyi, were named to the All-Pac-12 first team on Tuesday, while Duarte was also named to the all-defensive team.

Duarte and Omoruyi gave the Ducks two players on the first team for just the second time since 2003. Dillon Brooks and Elgin Cook were both first team selections in 2016.

Duarte is the seventh Duck in the last seven years to be named to the all-defensive team, but is the first guard from Oregon to make the all-defensive team.

One of five finalists for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, Duarte is one of just three players nationally averaging 17.0 points and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. He is the only major conference player with those averages.

Duarte leads the Ducks in scoring at 17.3 points per game (fourth in the Pac-12) and leads the conference by making 2.5 three-pointers per game. He is second in the league in steals and has scored in double figures in 19 consecutive games.

The Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, native ranks 10th nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 44.0 percent (55-of-125).

Omoruyi is fifth in the Pac-12 in scoring at 16.9 points per game. He is also ranked among the Pac-12’s top 15 in rebounding, steals and three-point field goal percentage.

The Rexburg, Ontario, native is the only Duck to have started all 24 games this season and has scored in double figures 22 times.

Top-seeded Oregon begins play in the Pac-12 Tournament Thursday at 11:30 a.m. against either Arizona State or Washington State (Pac-12 Network).
