Rumors swirled around Jay Bruce on Saturday, but the trade wasn’t official until Sunday.

General Manager Jerry Dipoto traded the veteran Bruce and cash to Philadelphia for minor leaguer Jake Scheiner. The newest Mariner will head to High-A Modesto.

The trade was officially announced during the game, and specifically while the Mariners starter, Marco Gonzales, was getting shellacked for 7 runs in the 2nd inning.

Seattle never really got going on offense. They got one bright spot, Kyle Seager hit his first home run of the season after spending almost two months on the Injured List. Seager made his season debut on May 25 against Oakland.

Winning Pitcher, (1-0) Jose Suarez (MLB Debut): 5.2 IP, 3 ER, 4 K, 3 BB

Losing Pitcher, (5-6) Marco Gonzales: 4.2 IP, 10 ER, 2 K, 3 BB
