An Opening Day For The Record Books

He led the Beavers to a College World Series. He was the number one overall draft pick in the draft. He was the top prospect in all of baseball. Now Adley Rutschman has does something that hasn’t happened since 1900.

According to Jeff Passan, Rutschman, is the first catcher with five hits on opening day since 1900. Rutschman also had a home run and four RBI in the Orioles 10-9 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Rutschman looks to build on a very successful rookie season where he helped the Orioles compete for a playoff bid and he was 12th in MVP voting despite only playing 113 games last season. He was second to Mariners rookie, Julio Rodriguez, in the AL rookie of the year last year.

It’s not surprising that Rutschman is so good, so fast for people out in the Northwest. He was the ultimate leader and player at Oregon State and it looks like the Orioles and their fans have the star player they have been looking for.
