Rutschman’s deal came with an $8.1 Million signing bonus, setting a new baseball record for most signing bonus money by a draftee. Gerritt Cole of the Pittsburgh Pirates signed with an $8 Million bonus back in 2011.
The slot value for the number-one pick this year was over $8.4 Million.
Rutschman is scheduled to have a press conference on Tuesday, where his first minor league assignment should be made known.
