Here are 3 things to know following Oregon’s winning the Nashville Regional and moving on in the NCAA Tournament.

  1. Ducks have a shot at their first College World Series appearance since 1954.

Oregon went to the eighth-ever College World Series back in 1954 after winning their District tournament over Seattle, Fresno State, and USC. In Omaha, though, the Ducks lost their first two games to Arizona and UMass to exit the tournament. In 2012 the Ducks came one win away from getting back to Omaha, but lost the third and decisive game of their Super Regional to visiting Kent State.

  2. Oral Roberts is No Ordinary 4-seed.

Oral Roberts became the eighth 4-seed ever to win a regional by coming out on top in Stillwater, Okla. over the weekend. ORU defeated Dallas Baptist on Sunday, 6-5, to win the regional. They have won 21 consecutive games, the longest active win streak in the country, and they are 39-3 in their last 42 games.Oral Roberts is making their first Super Regionals trip since 2006.

ORU’s closer is junior right-hander Cade Denton. He was named Stillwater Regional Most Outstanding Player after he recorded three saves in three straight days to seal ORU wins over host Oklahoma State, Washington, and Dallas Baptist. His 15 saves this year have matched a program single-season record.

  3. Is Oregon Baseball Officially Back?

As fans know, the University of Oregon didn’t have a varsity baseball team for 27 seasons after being discontinued due to budget cuts after the 1981 season. When the Oregon State Beavers won back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007, the University of Oregon decided to bring its baseball program back, and it officially returned with the 2009 season.George Horton, who won a national championship as head coach of Cal State Fullerton in 2004, was Oregon’s first head coach upon its restart. He led the team for eleven seasons before mutually parting ways with the program after the 2019 season. Mark Wasikowski, a former assistant under Horton, became Oregon’s next head coach in 2020.

Coach Waz has led the Ducks to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, its first-ever Pac-12 Tournament title, and now its second-ever trip to the Super Regionals. Oregon hosted a regional in 2021 but failed to advance, and in 2022 were the 2-seed in the Louisville regional but did not advance.

A ticket to Omaha would certainly answer affirmatively the question of Oregon baseball being officially back. They came agonizingly close to their second-ever College World Series trip in 2012 when they hosted a Super Regional, but lost in three games to Kent State.

The official super-regional schedule for Oregon vs Oral Roberts this weekend at PK Park will be announced no later than Tuesday.
