2021 Men’s NIT Will Feature 16 Teams, All Games in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex

The Men’s National Invitation Tournament (NIT) was canceled due to COVID-19 last year, but the tournament is back this season in Texas.

Conference USA and the University of North Texas will host the 2021 NIT. All games will be played in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Specifically, games will take place in two arenas, the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas and the UNT Coliseum in Denton, Texas.

Teams will be announced on Selection Sunday (March 14) at 5:30 p.m. PT.

The NIT field is usually 32 teams. With the reduction to 16 teams, there will be no automatic qualifiers and all teams will be at-large selections.

NIT round No. 1 begins on March 17. The NIT Championship game is set for March 28. There will also be a third place game, which the NIT hasn’t had since 2003.

All games will be on either ESPN or ESPN-2.

2021 Men’s NIT Schedule:

  • First Round – March 17-20
  • Quarterfinals – March 25
  • Semifinals – March 27
  • Championship Game & 3rd place Game – March 28
