Heisman trophy winner and Super Bowl champion Paul Hornung came on the Bald Faced Truth to talk with John Canzano about his career, and latest book, “The Paul Hornung Scrapbook” on Monday.

Hornung told stories of his career that included interacting with legendary coach Vince Lombardi, and United States president John F. Kennedy when he played for the Green Bay Packers.

Hornung served in the military when he played in the NFL, which made for weekends that involved playing football, and flying back and forth between football games and his service.

“I had a friend of mine in Green Bay who had an airplane and coach Lombardi had asked him to pick us up,” Hornung said. “So we were extended weekend passes to play professional football. They would pick me up every Friday to take me to practice.”

In one case, Hornung was unsure whether or not he would be able to make a game, due to the fact that he would have been let go later than others. Hornung spoke to Lombardi, who told him that he would see what he could do, by calling JFK.
