Alex Morgan storms the BFT radio show

April 25, 2013, 1:12 pm
Alex Morgan may have 1 million Twitter followers and a sweet goal in the Portland Thorns opening game, but do you know what she has on her night stand?

Or what she thinks about possibility of an elite women's player competing someday in the men's MLS?

Morgan, an Olympic gold medalist, joined 750-AM host John Canzano in studio on the Bald Faced Truth radio show on Thursday, riffing on her new children's soccer book, fans with iPhones snapping "selfies" with her, and and what it will take to make the National Women's Soccer League successful.

In a feisty match between the Timbers and Earthquakes, a Will Johnson free kick goal proves to be the difference and Portland escapes with the 1-0 win.

Mile High Meltdown

March 30, 2013, 5:48 pm
Four games. Four deficits. Three draws. Early on in this season we've learned two things about the Timbers: They don't start well but they don't quit either. This time two second-half goals by Will Johnson propels Portland to 2-2 draw against the Colorado Rapids.

What Does Youth Soccer Mean To Your Community?

I believe that youth soccer is a staple of any community. It crosses many barriers like racial as well as financial. It helps kids self esteem and confidence. Also in a world where video games and the Twinkies rule. It helps kids as well as adults outside exercising. Even steers kids away from gangs and drugs. I am very thankful for soccer. My kid and I are pledging to help other kids join. Thank you.

It plays a pivotal role in my community in McMinnville. The youth program in my community taught me so many lifelong lessons of teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, and goal setting. It still continues even today. I was blessed with influential coaches that volunteer their own time to teach us such a wonderful game of soccer.

Youth soccer is a key part of our local community. I've grown up watching young kids play soccer at the close by rec center, and am an avid Timbers supporter. Youth Soccer is important to get children to play a team sport and to learn the factors of team building and partnership.

Youth soccer is so important because it teaches kids discipline, struggle, wins, losses, bouncing back all while having fun! It also increases activity levels in a world where obesity is on the rise. Soccer is just great!
