The talk coming into the Thursday Night Game in Seattle between the Eagles and the Seahawks was what was going on in Philadelphia.
After the game all the attention was squarely on Marshawn Lynch and the Seahawks defense. The Seahawks offense started the game with a penalty on the first play and a sack on third down. After punting to the Eagles, the Seahawks defense stepped up and Kam Chancellor intercepted Vince Young and Seattle got the ball back on their own 40.
Seattle's offense would capitalize on the turnover, Tarvaris Jackson completed passes to Michael Robinson and Ben Obomanu as Seattle marched down the field. Then Lynch wouldn't be stopped as he powered through the Eagles defense for a 15 yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead for the Seahawks.
For most of the rest of the first quarter neither team was able to move the the ball but as the first quarter was coming to a close Lynch starts to take control. Lynch ran the ball three consecutive times including a 16 yard run. As the quarter was ending Jackson hit David Baldwin for a 21 yard reception to the Eagles 40. Then the first play of the 2nd quarter Lynch showed a burst of speed with a run off the right side for a 40 yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead for the Seahawks.
The Eagles would come right pack with a big play of their own as Young hit Riley Cooper for a 47 yard reception and LeSean McCoy finished the drive with a 1 yard touchdown and the Eagles were within 14-7. The teams exchanged punts and then Seattle was able to get into position to kick a field Goal before half. After Steven Hauschka made a 49 yard field goal Seattle went to the half with a 10 point lead 17-7.
The second half started with the Eagles getting the ball and driving to the Seahawks 37 yard line. The stingy Seattle defense then stepped in front of another Young pass as Brandon Browner returned the ball all the way to the Eagle yard line. The Seahawks went back to Lynch who had for rushes to get the ball to the Eagles 11. Jackson then hit Golden Tate in the back of the endzone for the 11 yard touchdown. Tate made a beatiful catch as he stretched for the ball and barley got both feet down in bounds. Seattle extended their lead to 24-7.
With their backs against a wall the Eagles drove the ball near the end of the third quarter all the way down to the Seattle 9 yard line. Then as the 4th quarter opened Young hit McCoy with a shovel pass and he slid into the endzone to draw the Eagles within 10 points at 24-14. The Seahawks were forced to punt on their next possession and the Eagles took over at their own 11. After driving all the way down to the Seattle 22 yard line Young dropped back to pass and flipped a pass toward McCoy. Seattle Linebacker David Hawthorne stepped in front and intercepted the pass then rumbled 77 yards for a Seattle touchdown and a 31-14 lead.
Browner would pick off Young for for his second of the game and the Seahawks would run out the clock and secure a 31-14 victory over one of the pre-season favorites in the NFC. The win pushed the Seahawks record to 5-7.
Marshawn Lynch ended the game with 2 touchdowns and the second highest rushing game in his career with 148 yards.
Late in the 4th quarter Seahawks offensive left tackel Russell Okung got tangled up with a defensive player and injured his left petoral. Head coach Pete Carroll said it may be a serious injury.
The Seahawks next game will be against the St. Louis Rams on Monday Night Football December 12th.
