The unchecked Sea Lion population on the Columbia River is now consuming around 10,000 Sturgeon annually. This is a huge problem that Oregon and Washington managers need to get fixed quickly. Many of these fish are spawning brood and in any given year there are only a handful of Sturgeon capable of spawning.
Of course this problem also serves as further evidence that permanent laws and regs like ESA Listings and protections acts of all types are a really bad idea. It would be nice if this bi-product of legislation would serve as an example to law makers as they continue to try to "fix" things.
