In his past two seasons as head coach of the Oregon Ducks, George Horton has coached the team to a 73-50-1 record.  So far in 2012, the Ducks are 30-13, ranked 12th in the country and sitting atop the Pac-12 standings.  Coach Horton joined the Morning Sports Page Friday to break down the Ducks nice start to the season and discuss the steps the team needs to take to continue to improve.

The Ducks 8-7 victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs give them a 12-4 record in one-run games for the season.  Coach Horton touches on this knack for pulling out the close games and suggests that this resiliency is one of the big differences over last year’s team.

The Ducks are riding a five-game winning streak as they head into a three-game series versus the Arizona Wildcats – Pairing the top two teams in the conference and two of the top 25 teams – against each other.

The Wildcats have won four of their past five and they’re batting average is in the top-five of all teams in college baseball.  Coach Horton emphasizes the Wildcats are not a team to underestimate and the Ducks have their work cut out for them if they are going to be the top team in the conference when the weekend’s over.

If the Ducks continue to play as they’ve been playing, there’s a good chance they can lock up a bid to host an NCAA regional tournament. Give a listen as Coach Horton lets us in on what the Ducks need to do in order to secure that bid and he takes us through what it would mean to the program if the Ducks were able to host a regional final.
