John Canzano Joins us From London

The London Olympics continued this weekend with stunning results in the Men's 100m, and a complete surprise performance by Oregon local Galen Rupp in the men's 10,000m.
Our continuing inside man for these London Games, John Canzano, called in to the Sports Insider Monday afternoon to fill us in on these awesome performances over the weekend. He spoke with Guest Host Fletcher Johnson, who was filling in for Brian Berger.

Canzano and Fletcher go right into it talking about Usain Bolt's absolutely mind blowing performance during the 100m sprint. After a slow start off the blocks, the average viewer would have thrown Usain from contention immediately.  He was in the thick of the crowd for half the race, and then a sudden burst of speed at the end landed him instant Gold and an Olympic record with a time of 9.63.

Though, as crazy as it may sound, this is not the most impressive feat Canzano witnessed in this race. He states that the top four times in the event would have won gold at any other Olympics, prior to Bolt. One thing is for sure, Usain is making his competition work for it.

After being so impressed by the 100m, could anything impress John more? How about University of Oregon's Galen Rupp earning the silver medal in the men's 10,000m? After a surprisingly slow pace was set by Ethiopia, Rupp and his training partner (England's Mo Farah) chose to fall right behind and let them. Playing the race like a chess game, Rupp and Farah came up in the last lap for a sprint that Ethiopia just could not match.

Earning the silver medal should be an achievement on it's own, but it is made even more impressive when you consider that the last American to medal in the 10,000m was Billy Mills who took gold back in 1964.
