Archie Griffin/WN News

Archie Griffin is the only player to ever win the Heisman trophy more than once.  He’s also the only player to ever win four consecutive Big 10 titles and start in four consecutive Rose Bowls.  He joined Chad in the Afternoon Wednesday to talk about those magical seasons in 1974 and 1975 and to let us know about the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award organization that he is a part of.

Griffin states that he is very happy with the way the Ohio State program is heading under the direction of Urban Meyer.  He has got the team off to a (4-0) start and he has a young quarterback in Braxton Miller that looks like a budding star.  But he admits that the real test and the real measure of Meyer’s abilities is about to occur as Ohio State opens up Big 10 play this weekend versus Michigan State.

Griffin also talked about his time playing for one of the greatest coaches in the history of college football, Woody Hayes.

“I loved playing for Woody Hayes. Coach Hayes was a great football coach, but he was an even better person.  He was tough, no question about that.  But he was fair.  And I think that’s all that any player could ask of a coach, and he was all of that.”

When he’s not reminiscing about his years at Ohio State, Griffin devotes much of his time to the Wendy’s High School Heisman organization.  The Wendy’s High School Heisman recognizes a male and female student-athlete that best represents excellence in the classroom, in the community and in athletics.  Since 1994, more than 305,000 high school seniors have been recognized by the organization and each year, more and more are receiving the award.  The voting is going on now and the winner will be announced in December on ESPN.
