“I think John [Elway] put himself in Peyton’s position and said ‘hey, just take your time on this thing. We’re not going to rush you. We’re going to be here. And I think that was somewhat comforting for him to hear.”’
Archie also maintains that the 2012 version of Peyton resembles the Peyton of old. When asked what impressed him most about Peyton’s performance he pointed out a particular throw late in the game.
“There was a pass in the fourth quarter…As quarterbacks, I think we always kind of judge ourselves on the deep sideline throw and he made that one, had plenty of RPMs on it.”
The two also commented on the growth and development of the younger Eli and his play since becoming the top-dog for the New York Giants.
“They seem to keep the thrill in it in New York…One year they were rolling along and they wanted to run Eli and Coach Coughlin out of town and then all of a sudden they get hot and won a Super Bowl and last year was somewhat similar – they were (7-7) and people were kind of counting them out, then they get healthy and got hot and won a another Super Bowl.”
