Chuck Weise was an airline pilot for Northwest airlines on the tragic day of September 11, 2001. He joined Chad in the Afternoon Tuesday to recount the events of that fateful day.
Weise explains that he had his crew were amongst the least informed people of what was going on that morning. He had heard that a plane had flown into one of the towers but thought that it must have been a private jet because there was no reason for a commercial jet to be flying that low to the city. But upon learning that a second plane had struck the World Trade Center, he knew it couldn’t have happened by chance.
He did not get confirmation of what was really going on until he found a commercial radio station broadcasting the events. At that point, he heard the most blood curdling broadcast he has ever heard:
“Oh no! Oh no, the tower has collapsed.”
Weise states that hearing those words was just like hearing a play by play of a thousand lives ending right before him
Not only did Weise have to come to terms with the news that he had just found, he and his crew had to explain to the passengers what they had just learned and what they were doing on the ground.
A story can’t really put into words what the events must have been like, so take a listen to the powerful interview and be sure to pay your respects today to all men and women who serve or who have served this country.
God Bless America.
