The Portland Trail Blazers have had their fare share of big men patrolling the paint first at the Memorial Coliseum and now at the Rose Garden Arena. The first overall pick of the 1972 NBA draft LaRue Martin, had high hopes and ambitions upon entering the National Basketball Association. Joining John Canzano on the Bald Faced Truth, LaRue Martin talked about his time in Portland and the career path he’s chosen in which he’s become very successful. LaRue and John talk about being the first overall pick in the draft and the kind of expectations it puts on a player fresh out of college. LaRue and John also talk about the city of Portland and how LaRue came to love the city and the friends that he currently still communicates with. The transition from the NBA to life off the court wasn’t an easy one as the time to become production and provide a life sometimes becomes a challenge.

LaRue Martin is currently a community services manager with UPS in the Chicago area and talks with John about building a career with UPS from the ground up. Canzano asked Martin whether or not NBA teams have come to him regarding a position as a life skills coach or a mentor. LaRue talks about how staying positive and building on the positivity helped him be successful off the courts of the NBA into the corporate world at UPS. What company gave LaRue management experience after his playing days in the NBA? LaRue Martin breaks it down in this compelling exclusive interview found on 750 The Game.
