A Delightful Day with Dan Dickau
May 22, 2012, 2:31 pm
After a six year NBA career, Portland Native Dan Dickau has continued to revolve his life around hoops – Both as an assistant coach for the Portland Trail Blazers and as a mentor to basketball-loving youth in the Northwest . He joined the Morning Sports Page Tuesday morning to talk about what he has seen so far in the NBA playoffs.
Dickau has been in some dysfunctional locker rooms dating back to his days as a member of the Atlanta Hawks. He suggests that great locker room demeanor is one of the most important things to a good basketball team. And he believes it is one of the things that has made the Spurs such a great team and such a cohesive unit.
Dickau goes on to say that the Spurs are one of the most fundamentally sound teams he’s seen in his days as a professional. Between their great drafting, the role players embracing their positions, and one of the best coaches in the NBA, the Spurs have developed the blueprint for how to assemble and run and NBA team.
Sticking with the theme of the NBA playoffs, Dickau has his reservations about the Heat making a second appearance in the NBA championship without a healthy Chris Bosh. He suggests that between Lebron and Wade, the Heat have the most firepower. But with Allen, Garnett, Rondo and Pierce, the Celtics have more weapons.
When he’s not coaching or providing great basketball insight, Dickau spends a lot of time with his basketball academy. He’s got two summer camps coming up in June and July.
Listen in as Dickau gives us the NBA playoff rundown and talks about a couple future basketball tournaments that the Dan Dickau Academy is putting on.
