New Duck Uniforms / Oregon Live
Michael Berk of local station KGW joined Brian today on the Sports Insider. Berk came on the show to talk Portland's current pro sports landscape, as well as to discuss what the future holds for sports in the Rose City.
Michael made his point very clear by reminding everyone that Portland is a one of the top sports towns in the nation. He mentioned that Seattle is currently lobbying to get back into the NBA, which would land them all four of the big sports. So why should Portland settle for two?
“It’s too big of a city, and too big of a sports town not to have more than just one of the major four [sports].”
The conversation then turned to how big cities are paying for these sports, and how there has been a slow shift away from relying on taxpayers more to the owners themselves.
“The days of the taxpayer dollar subsidizing 100% of these facilities, or even 50%, are long gone. The economy is just not good enough to sustain it, and people won’t vote for it.”
Brian and Berk also discussed the newly revealed Oregon Duck uniforms, and Michael gave his predictions on wins for the upcoming Blazers season. Listen to the interview below.
