The Blazers shocked no one when they selected Damian Lillard with the 6th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. After impressing the Blazer executives in pre-Draft workouts, the former Weber State point guard was the Blazers’ presumptive first-round selection last night. The praise of his college coach certainly didn’t hurt either. Weber State basketball coach Randy Rahe joins the Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to talk about his former star point guard Damian Lillard.
Though Lillard played for a small college not known for producing great basketball players, Coach Rahe was confident that he would eventually make it to the NBA.
John and Randy discuss how he feels now that Damian Lillard has made it to the NBA. After spending four years with him in Utah, the coach and Damian developed a very close working relationship. When he saw one of his best players make it to the next level, Rahe was filled with pride for his former player.
As the leader of the Wildcats, Damian was pivotal to the success of the team. Coach Rahe explains what motivated Damian to try so hard. Randy also talks about how playing at Weber State has made Damian better at reading defenses. As the main scoring threat for the Wildcats, opposing defenses would double and triple team Lillard. He then discusses how well Damian and LaMarcus Aldridge will play together in Portland.
