Timbers Shock Earthquakes

The Timbers regained some of their Mojo Tuesday night when they upset the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 at Jeld-WEN Field in front of a sold out crowd.Coming off equally high and low emotions of a Seattle win and Colorado loss, respectively, Portland had the daunting task of taking on the MLS' best in the San Jose Earthquake. Unlike their last game against the Rapids, the Timbers came out fast, aggressive, and moving the ball around unlike any other game so far this year.
The aggressive play payed off in the 29th minute when the Timbers launched a counter-attack off a San Jose possession that resulted in Frank Songo'o finding Danny Mwanga for his first ever goal with the team.
Despite their record, San Jose has struggled giving up goals all season, and Portland notched another score in the 59th minute when San Jose keeper David Bingham couldn't corral a Frank Songo'o free kick and Jack Jewsbury tapped in the loose ball in front of the goal.

San Jose added a goal of their own in the 74th minute when Alan Gordon found the back of the net, but the Timbers squashed any further offensive threats after that.
The Timbers are now 5-7-4 on the season and are in 8th place in the Western Conference with 19 points.
Portland will travel to Salt Lake City next to take on Real Salt Lake Saturday night.
