PSU held strong in the first half and it looked like they would take a 3 to 3 tie into the locker room at halftime but TCU had not quite finished the their first half. The Horned Frogs scored three touchdowns within two minutes and finished the half up 24 to 3.
TCU’s quarter back Casey Pachall threw a quick pass to Josh Boyce who then turned up field to see that it was wide open. Boyce bounced 66-yard for touchdown.
Portland State’s next possession to get a little back turned out to be just one more pre-halftime score for TCU. Linebacker Tank Carder, Rose Bowl defensive MVP picked off a Hubel pass and weaved his way through the Viking defense 26 yards for the touchdown making the score 17 to 3.
The Vikings went three and out and were forced to punt. With a 42 yard return Sky Dawson set up the Horned Frogs on the 11 yard line and three plays later caught a 10 yard pass for a score. This put TCU up 24 to 3 at halftime.
After coming back from halftime TCU keep its foot on the peddle. On the first play of the second half Waymon James took the hand-off and ran into a pack of Vikings but managed to spin and twist his way out of the pile. Then run 65 yard for the touchdown. James had 136 yard on 10 carries and added another touchdown with an 82 yard kickoff return deep in the fourth quarter.
It was all TCU in the second half and it seemed that PSU couldn’t make anything happen. But a Zach Brown field goal in the fourth gave a spark to the Vikings and they went on the score a touchdown against the Horned Frog defense, something that Portland State was unable to do against their last to naturally ranked opponents.
TSU put together an amazing last two minutes of the first half and the entire second half that proved just too much for the (2-1) Vikings to handle and won the game 55 to 13.
