Marc J. Spears has been covering the NBA since 1999 and is one of the best writers in the entire sports journalism world.  He joined Chad on Flight 750 Tuesday to talk about the big stories circling around the NBA world.

Spears insists that one of the biggest surprises of the year is the way Terry Stotts has got the Blazers in playoff contention.

“Terry Stotts to me is doing one of the better coaching jobs in the NBA this season and I don’t know that anybody, even the Blazers themselves expected them to be this high in the mix right now.”

Spears also spoke to the ridiculous statement from this week coming out of Dallas saying “Mark Cuban’s bank is open.”

“’Come eat at my restaurant but all the food is crappy.’  I mean, what are you going to take from them.  You’re not taking Dirk, so what do you want?”

And finally, Spears talked about the great play from rookie point guard Damian Lillard and he implies that he expected this sort of outcome ever since the first time he saw Damian Lillard practice.

“I’ve been covering the NBA since 99 and I can’t say I’ve seen anybody work out that hard, especially somebody who had yet to play one second in the league.”

Take a listen to the interview and be sure to look for Spears’s great columns every week on Yahoo! Sports.
