June 12, 2012, 10:00 am
After earning a Master’s Degree in Journalism from NYU in 2009, Sarah Tressler was forced to turn to the world of exotic dancing in order to make ends meet. After years of stripping, Tressler landed a job with the Houston Chronicle in January of this year but when her employment history was uncovered in March, the Chronicle quickly cut ties with her. Tressler joined Chad on The Morning Sports Page Tuesday to share her story.
Tressler claims that she started stripping at the age of 22 as a way to pay her bills and pay off her student loans because she could not find a job in her field. She finally landed a job as a freelance reporter with the Houston Chronicle at the beginning of this year. But after just over two months of working for The Chronicle, Tressler was abruptly fired because a rival newspaper, The Houston Press had discovered that she had spent years stripping before becoming an employee at the publication. One day after The Press printed its story about Tressler, she was fired by The Chronicle.
Tressler said she was shocked and saddened by the firing because she said her employers were pleased with her work. She claimed her boss fired her because her back-story had embarrassed the organization and brought negative attention to the workplace.
Tressler has filed suit against The Chronicle because she feels she was unfairly fired. She claims that she did nothing illegal and that firing a woman serves as a form of gender discrimination because females are the primary gender in the exotic dancing field.
Since working for The Chronicle, Tressler has written a book entitled “Diaries of an Angry Stripper which is a collection of blog post she had written as her time as an exotic entertainer. She says the book is intended to be a humorous account of the uncomfortable situations she encountered during her time as an exotic dancer.
Tressler also made sure to mention that she is currently on tour doing a signing of the book and she says she will be in the Portland area very soon. Take a listen as Tressler gives one of the most unique interviews we’ve ever had on The Morning Sports Page.
