They first talked about Roy’s time on television and his interviewing techniques. Roy explained about how he never had questions but had keywords that would lead to a question. He explained how he had conversations with not only athletes but actors, musicians, and other important figures. Roy’s show, “Up Close” was on television for twenty years and he talks about the many athletes and people he talked to during that time.

Roy then told some stories about the powerful interviews that he had with Mercury Morris, Andre Agassi, and others. He explained about how these athletes opened up about their personal lives, which gave him and the show a reputation for emotional and hard-hitting interviews. He tells the story about his interview with Morris after he was released from prison and how he was emotional in talking about missing his parent’s passing while imprisoned.

Roy Firestone is a seven-time Emmy Award-winning and seven-time cable ACE Award-winning host of the ground-breaking ESPN’s show “Up Close”. Roy is working on a show in Los Angeles called “LA Tonight”, which he hopes to premiere in the fall on Public Broadcasting.  He still does many public appearances across the country which you can view at www.royfirestone.com.
