Roger the Dodger scrambles to help veterans

Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach joins the Bald Faced Truth with guest host Fletcher Johnson to talk about his legendary football career and how the NFL is helping veterans. Spending a dazzling decade in Dallas, Staubach lead the Cowboys to nine consecutive winning seasons and victories in Super Bowl VI and XII. He made the switch from player to analyst in the 1980s for CBS Sports. Staubach was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

Fletcher began his interview with the living legend by asking Roger if winning the Heisman Trophy was an individual or a team effort. Despite the fact that the Heisman is an individual award, Roger believes his Heisman victory in 1963 at Navy was the result of playing on an excellent team. Roger also recounts his Super Bowl wins in 1972 and 1978. He then gives us some perspective on how serving in the Navy affected him as a man and a football player. Roger traces his path from the Navy to his late entrance into professional football. He reveals what his relationship with coach Tom Landry was like and what he learned from the legendary man. Finally, Roger explains why he is involved with the NFL’s efforts to help veterans.
