Ray Lewis' Storybook Ending

Stan White was a standout Linebacker for THE Ohio State University in the early 1970s and he went on to play ten seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Colts and the Detroit Lions. Now he is a radio analyst for the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Wednesday to discuss his career in the NFL as well as the memorable career of Ravens’ linebacker Ray Lewis.
White insists that few people actually know what Ray Lewis actually means to the Ravens and to the city of Baltimore.
“He’s the emotional leader. He’s the spiritual leader. He’s a community leader. He works with a lot of the kids in the inner-city here doing things – He’s just a great human being. People don’t understand that. People look back to some of some of his past issues and think that that defines him. Well it doesn’t. That’s not who Ray Lewis is. What defines him is what he’s done in his community as well as what he’s done on the field.”
White gave his opinion of where Lewis ranks among the All-Time greats.
“To me there’s two inside backers and then there’s everybody else and that’s Dick Butkus and Ray Lewis. Dick Butkus to me was just the greatest but I think Ray Lewis has had the greatest career because he lasted 17 years while Dick Butkus was an eight or nine year player.”
And finally, White talked about what it would be like for Ray Lewis to be able to go out with a Super Bowl victory.
“For him to go out this way, to announce his retirement at the game he came back for the playoffs, and then to make this run through the playoffs…Magical is about the only way to explain it.”
