Portland, Toronto Play to 2-2 Draw
August 15, 2012, 6:56 pm
Portland's first road victory of the season will have to wait at least four more days. After striking first, the Timbers yielded two goals to Toronto FC before a Darlington Nagbe equalizer came in the 82nd minute.
The Timbers got on the board first in the 21st minute when Sal Zizzo put away his own deflection off a Toronto FC player on the goal line.
Portland took the 1-0 lead to the half, but as they've been prone to do this season, they had a ten minute lapse where they allow multiple goals.
It began in the 57th this time, when Eric Hassli put away a Luis Silva shot deflected by Timbers' keeper Donovan Ricketts.
Six minutes later, Toronto took the lead off a beautiful combination play that started with Ashtone Morgan and ended with Luis Silva in front of the net with an easy goal.
For the second straight game, though, Portland equalized the match in the last fifteen minutes of the game.
This time, it came courtesy of Nagbe, who found the back of the net with a header off a Steven Smith cross.
This was the first multi-goal road game for the Timbers this season and also snapped their four-month long scoreless drought away from Jeld-Wen Field.
Portland is now 5-12-6 on the season and travels to New York next to take on the Red Bulls on Sunday.
