Portland State head football coach Nigel Burton joined guest host Bernard Bokenyi of the Bald Faced Truth Thursday to talk about the recent progress of the program.

Last season was certainly a successful one for the Vikings, who improved from a 2-9 record in 2010 to 7-4 in 2011.

"I'm interested to see where we are ending the spring and heading into fall camp to see the progress that was made over the summer," Burton said.

Portland State, a member of the Big Sky Conference, competes in the Football Championship Subdivison. The FCS is most famous for their playoff system, one that the FBS recently switched to and also one that Burton endorses.

"There's no polls, there's no beauty contest, it doesn't matter how much you beat somebody by," Burton commented. "What it just comes down to is the best team on the field."

Portland State finished 7-4 last season, and opens the season Sept. 1 against Collgate College. Listen to the interview:
