The Chip Kelly era in Eugene has ended and the Mark Helfrich era has started. The new head coach of the Oregon Ducks joined John Canzano on The Bald Faced Truth to talk about the new position.
Chip Kelly lead the Ducks to four straight BCS Bowl appearances and the expectations for Mark Helfrich are high. Helfrich spoke with John about Chip's departure to the NFL.
"He never really said I'm coming back there was never really the declaration of that and I don't know what exactly transpired in his mind and again I think we just have to wish him luck, he did a lot of great things for the University of Oregon and our program and our state and our fans across the country."
With a new head coach that usually means changes in how the program is run both on and off the football field. Helfrich spoke to John about changes.
"We believe in our system and I think most importantly our players believe in our system. There's going to be general tweaking of things that would be no different if the previous head coach was still here and a successful continuation of philosophy. You're just tweaking the margins refining recruiting, refining academic support, you're refining everything you do every year hopefully."
Coach Helfrich and John also talk about why coaches prefer to stay in Eugene and with the football program at the University of Oregon for long periods of time.
