Goldberg Jones: Keeping Up With the Kids
July 18, 2012, 11:09 am
Colin Amos, our trusted divorce expert, is back on the MSP to make sure you know everything you need to know about divorce, litigation and separation.
In today’s installment, the focus was entirely on the kids. Amos asserts that the most important way to make sure parents remain a part of their kids’ lives is to establish a precedent within their lives early on. Courts are always going to rule in favor of what they believe is best for the kids. If a parent has been an active and supportive part of a child’s lifestyle from an early age, the courts will not want the child to suffer a severe separation.
Although, males often find their former female partners winning custody battles for kids, Amos insists that courts really do look at the situation that is best for the kid. With the popularity of online dating, many people have been expressing interest in changing area codes to get a fresh start with a new family –sometimes crossing state lines. Amos states that Oregon in particular has shown an emphasis in not allowing children to be separated from their family members unless the alternative living situation just offers a situation that
is hands down better than the current one.
