Tony Dungy former NFL head coach and current analyst on
NBC’s, “Football Night in America”, joined The Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to talk NFL football and his son now playing with the Oregon Ducks.
Tony has been with NBC for the last three years and has been working hard making the transition from the fast paced world of an NFL head coach to a football analyst. He has loved the extra time on the side to go and watch his son Eric Dungy who is now playing for the Oregon Ducks. He has not had the chance to go see college games in quite a few years up until recently and is excited to watch his son’s team in action.
“Just the atmosphere, it’s so much different than the NFL, but being able to just go and cheer for not only my son but other people’s boys and just be part of a group of fans has been fantastic”.
Tony has been asked by many recently if he would ever get back into coaching and if Chip Kelly ever decided to move up to NFL if he would take Kelly’s spot as head coach.
“I really don’t, I’m enjoying life. Coaching was special for me for 28 years. Had some of the best situations you could have, but I think I’m at a different stage now. I’m really looking forward to the next couple of years; continuing watching the Ducks play and seeing Eric play there. I don’t think it’s going to happen”.
Tony sees his career moving forward from where he is at now as an analyst. He does miss the crazy environment at the practices and on the side lines at games. He had great relationships with all of his players and staff and he believes that is the best combination you could ever have to make a winning team.
“You have a philosophy, and there are a number of different philosophies that can win, but you have your philosophy. You stick to it; you don’t let anybody else side track you from it. Then you build your organization with good people and you support them and give them loyalty”.
