Detlef Schrempf former NBA All-Star joins The Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to talk about his career and his new gig as an analyst on the Pac-12 Network
. Detlef was able to have a full professional career for 16 years, playing for four different NBA teams including the Portland Trail Blazers for his last year.
Detlef began his basketball career when he moved from Germany his senior year of high school to the States. He played for one year at Centralia High School in Washington. He sent his team to the state title which intern got him into the University of Washington. After he graduated he was in the first draft round pick and was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks. Detlef came back to the northwest and has been happy living here and working with the Pac-12.
“Not just thinking about sports or basketball but just as far as people, I think we are very fortunate to be living in this area. First of all people are very generous and their pretty relaxed. We also have the most giving community in the states for sure”.
Detlef remembers not having much play time under his belt when he was first drafted. He was later traded to Indiana and was finally able to contribute to his team. During his time with the SuperSonics Detlef was able to play against Chicago during the finals and remembers it being a great time and they played their hardest.
With all the years of experience and love for the game of basketball Detlef decided to stay nearby and become an analyst for the new Pac-12 network. There are not many who can fill the shoes and have the right expertise to do the job that being an analyst takes, but Detlef is up for the challenge.
“For me the Pac-12 Network is just a way to do something different but staying involved with the game. Obviously right now I’m not covering any of the Pac-12 season games, just the preseason games up here; but it’s been a lot of fun”.
