1991 Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Michigan Desmond Howard joined The Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to talk about his career on and off the field and the upcoming Heisman vote.

Desmond believes that the Heisman award sticks with you the most throughout your career even when you get into your older years.

“I don’t think anyone really can understand the magnitude and the gravity of that award until once you’ve had it for a few years. You see how people treat you after you’ve won it”.

Desmond sees his position as an analyst for ESPN a great spot to be in when having to make a decision or vote on which player should receive the Heisman Trophy. When players are dominating the stats and battling each other for that top stop for the trophy Desmond is there to make sure the fans are well informed.

From front to back of the college ball season it is hard for one player to hold that top spot for the Heisman Trophy the whole time. Desmond believes that college football is unpredictable and anything can happen. He does not think you can choose who is going to win in September there is just too much football left to be played.

With Desmond well versed in most collegiate organizations John takes the interview towards the Oregon Ducks. The recent talk of Chip Kelly moving up to NFL status has even reached Desmond’s ears and he had a few things to say about it.

“No not at all, because you don’t want to subject your quarterback to that type of punishment for 16 weeks from grown men”.

Desmond thinks that Kelly will have some adjustments to make to his play book to hold up to the professional defenses that will be running his team into the ground. Desmond can see Chip Kelly making the adjustment if he does move, and taking his career to a whole new level.
