Coach Mackovic Backs Mack Brown

John Mackovic was the head coach for the University of Texas football team from 1992-1997, leading them to appearances in both the Sugar Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl. He joined guest host Chop on the Bald Faced Truth Thursday to preview the big Alamo Bowl matchup between the Beavers and Longhorns.
Mackovic insists that Mack Brown has been given a bad rap by many media members and that he is one of the better coaches in both college football and Texas football history.“At Texas, a bad season usually meant a coaching change. A tribute to Mack Brown is the fact that he’s done so well that when he went through two or really three bad seasons that he’s still there as their coach and he will stay there as their coach.”
Mackovic also suggests that Mack Brown has earned the right to go out on his own terms.
“I think Mack will be able to coach until he doesn’t want to coach. Now there is a caveat in there – the Athletic Director, Deloss Dodds - he very likely will retire sometime soon and Mack most likely will take over and finish his career at Texas as the Athletic Director.”
And lastly, Mackovic talked about the Alamo Bowl matchup between the Beavers and the Longhorns and what the Beavers need to do if they want to win this game.
“To me, the biggest question is who’s going to play quarterback and really get off to a good start. If you don’t get off to a good start against Texas and get going, they’re hard to handle.”
